  1. Our first xmas was strange as we had only been here for a few weeks...so kind of felt like we were in holiday mode still!

But as we approach our 6th xmas in OZ.....must admit i prefer xmas here............there isn't so much hype which doesn't get the kids into a mad frenzy....as was the norm in the UK. Also, its strange as the kids tend to be looking forward to the 6/7 week school holidays more than anything!!!!!!! Or maybe thats just mine? lol

Having said all that....there is definitely the lack of xmas celebrations at school, such as carol concerts, nativity plays etc..........my kids have done nothing like that at all since coming here..........

  2. Any expenses who have relating to your work, you should keep all receipts.

This link for the ATO will give you all the information you need...as there are lots of things you can claim for...wouldnt do any harm to have a good read.

    Individuals

At the end of the financial year, your employer/s will issue you with a group certificate which will show your total income and tax...this will be required for you to submit your tax return.

Are you on a permanent visa? If so, as you have kids, get in touch with centrelink as you may be entitled to family assistance & rent assistance...

  3. Hi all, got a question for you. We have a Sub Class 136 visa (permanent resident). We migrated to Oz in May '09 and returned to the UK. If we decide to return, do we have to apply for a returning visa or can we return on the original visa which is still in date?

I note there is resident return to Australia visa (155). We're not sure if we need to apply for this or not?

    Thanks for your help!

I remember you guys....i bought the PINK tickets from you......are you thinking of coming back to OZ?

  4. You guys obviously don't listen to the weather forcast !!!:biglaugh: At the begining of spring it did say that it was going to be a cold one and the warmer weather wasn't going to join us untill late this year. However they did say that when the summer does come it will hit hard and be a good one!!!

So that will give you something to whinge about after xmas !

Er....actually did listen to the weather forecast...and knew perfectly well it was gonna be a crap start to spring!!! But that doesnt mean i cant whinge about it! Especially when i have been out at netball and its supposed to be the summer season! :biglaugh:

  5. RRP is rarely what you end up paying.

The wife picked up Medal Of Honour for me last week upon release.

EB Games wanted $110 for it, but Big W were selling it for $77.

    EB Games price match too.

It will be interesting what price Big W and k-mart sell COD for.

yeah they will definitely price match...i pre-ordered the last COD game with EB games and paid the deposit etc...when it came out, BIG W sold it for around $40 cheaper...they price matched it...

  6. Definitely always worth checking out amazon...

My son wants the Black Ops Prestige Edition...yet funnily enough its cheaper over here! $228 at EB Games.....yet 189 quid on Amazon which is about $300!!!

Yet...i have just bought some GHD's from Amazon in the UK for $100 less than over here!!!!

    Always worth comparing....

  7. I dont think you will have to go back to school, although the school leaving age is now 17....

The school leaving age was lifted by a year, although students will not have to stay in high school full-time.

The change in the leaving age meant that young people in their 16th year right through to 17 have to be either at school, at TAFE, in an apprenticeship or at work

    check out this website

  8. Anyone have a lad starting cricket this term?

I am selling my son's cricket gear, as he isn't doing cricket anymore...

    I have the following...

Adidas Cricket Pants Age 10.....have a few marks on them.....tried washing the marks out, but just cant seem to!!!

    Cricket Polo Age 10

    Gray Nicholls Predator 750 Gloves

    Puma Stealth 2000 Cricket Pads

    and a hat for fielding...

Cost would be around $150 for the lot brand new......

So am looking for $75 for the lot....

  9. Hi everyone,

Hope you are all well. My wife, 3 kids (8,13,14) and I are coming over to live in Adelaide on the 22nd November. If anyone lives in the Happy Valley, Woodcroft, Reynella East, or Seacombe Heights, Seaview areas, we would be really grateful if you could give us some info regarding the schools, healthcare facilities, shops, and the social aspect of the place. Or anything else that might be useful would be very much appreciated.

We also need to find a rental in one of these areas if you know of anyone with a house to rent.

    Regards, Gez

    Hi...

I live in Happy Valley, have done for over 4 years now. Its a fairly big suburb....there are 3 primary schools which service the suburb....Braeview, Happy Valley Primary and Reynella East. Your local school will obviously depend on which part you live in, although I think you can choose which primary you want...dont think they inforce catchment areas strictly at primary level....you may also find that some parts of Happy Valley are serviced by Aberfoyle Park Schools.

The main High school for the most of the suburb is Reynella East High School...I have one daughter at the high school (year 9) and 2 boys at the primary (year 1 & 5)...have no complaints regarding the schooling they are getting....they ave good facilities over there with more being added....safe routes for walking home as well....

Happy Valley has a very good healthcare facility called Fountain Valley Medical Centre...even better as they bulk bill the majority of care....

There is a small shopping centre on Kenihans Road, which has your basic;s catered for...Foodland, bakers, butchers, etc.......has a maccas and BWS...dvd rental place etc.......but if you want bigger supermarkets, than you are not far from the woolworths at Woodcroft and also Aberfoyle Park Hub which has a pretty good shopping centre.

For a social aspect.....Happy Valley is pretty well serviced with public transport as well. The main buses between noarlunga and marion etc, run through Happy Valley, with good connections up to the city....being very accessible to Noarlunga and Marion, will be great for your teenagers!

Reynella East and Woodcroft suburbs are next to Happy Valley...I walk out of my front door and within 10 minutes or so, i am pretty much in another suburb...but i do live pretty central in Happy Valley. To be honest...any of these suburbs will suit...like anywhere there are some parts that maybe you might not like and some you will.......everyone has different tastes!

Keep a good eye on Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au for rentals coming up.......they do get snapped up pretty quick...as do houses that come on for sale around here.....

  10. My son is 11 plays for Lonsdale Lizards..

we are doing a summer competition, think its gonna be on a friday night and probably 7 a side...but not sure what team ages are being entered.....here is the link to the club...i've given you the link for the committee members....contact Sam Hill....

During winter my son played for U10...as he was still 10 when the season started...but we had kids in our team as young as 8....so might be worth a call...
