  1. Done, my daughter started in a tiny school just like yours, it's heart breaking for the community when this happens. Good luck.
  2. Jeewizz, what have I started, thanks for all the advice I now understand that I need to enter AU on a AU passport, thanks everyone, and just to stir it up a bit more, although you might now be a AU citizen you are still English/Scottish/Irish if that's where you were born, you don't rescind your birth country. :biglaugh:
  3. Whoops, I meant $400:goofy: Thanks Sidestep, cleared up perfectly.
  4. Thanks, Rachiegarlo, bottle of wine it is then.
  5. The £400 odd I'd paid for the English one, is the first reason, the second and more importantly I don't want to be wrong.
  6. We are waiting to receive a date to become citizens, my English passport still has 7 or 8 years left on it, my wife has been told that I need to get an Australian passport after the ceremony if we want to travel abroad as you are not allowed two passports, (I know someone who has two passports and works abroad) she seems to think that if I leave the country I will not be allowed to return into Australia as the Temp visa in my passport is no longer valid, surely I don't need to purchase an Australian passport until the English one runs out, please tell me I'm right I'd hate to admit I'm wrong.
  7. Just get them from the UK, even if there is a delivery charge it's still cheaper than buying here.
  8. Beautiful looking car, if I had the money I would have a look, defiantly a classic and can only appreciate.
  9. Cheers S****, just spent our first night under canvas All be it was in the back garden:wink:, don't want to push the boat too far on the first try. Cheers again.

    Kids Shoes

There is a shop in Aldinga shopping center, and one in North Adelaide that sell Clarks but be prepared for the price, my daughter is ten Y/O with size 4 and they were roughly $90 give or take, we ended getting them (same shoe) from ebay at $60. I actually ordered the wrong width size and the company took them back and exchanged no problem at all, only problem is I can't find the name of the seller, sorry.
  11. Hi, have pm'd you I hope but couldn't see it my sent folder
  12. http://www.brisbanetimes.com.au/travel/travel-news/what-a-wicked-thing-to-say-20100111- These used to do weekend hire although we haven't used them for a couple of years, http://adelaidesouth.campertrailer.com.au/
  13. Don't forget you have to apply to bring a vehicle over, it's not a given, I was refused for a motorbike, no reason given, but think it was probably because we were on a temporary visa, bike was 1 year old same model as is sold here, like I said no reason given just 10 days to sell.

I was under the impression that you could be prosecuted for 'Driving with undue care and attention'.

    Drink Driving

I ride a motorbike and filter though traffic regularly, at least once a week I see someone drinking a bottle/can whilst driving, men and women, when I brought this up at a bbq over half the males said that there was nothing wrong with it, when I suggested that they shouldn't be drinking and driving the reply/excuse was "that perhaps that was their first drink of the day and thus they wouldn't be over the limit".
  16. You should make the most of the fosters, as you probably know you'll be hard pushed to find it here.
  17. When we went back to the UK we went into carphone warehouse and bought a mobile for £1 as long as we bought a £10 sim card. I'm quite sure you'll be able to find a cheap phone.
  18. This site should have all the answers. http://www.redbook.com.au/
  19. That sounds great, what size system did you put in, who done it for you and did you have to change the way you used your appliances as I have been told that you have to use heavy items like dishwashers, dryers etc. at night to reap any benefits. Something to do with calculating your personal use before anything goes back into the grid.
  20. Where did this data come from as I cannot find anywhere that has reported 30% losses in any part of the country. When people read this kind of scaremongering they have to realize that there are markets within markets, as Diane stated that her property that they bought 7 years ago has definitely not doubled its price, I'm quite sure that some suburbs in Adelaide there has been property that has doubled in the last 7 years. If you look at RP Data web site it states that Adelaide has had no change in the median house price quoting $385k at the median price, but another graphic from the Australian newspaper quotes Adelaide up by 0.5% with a median price of $452500. As with everything financial it seem to be a gamble to a certain extent, hoping that you buy at the right time at the lowest price before the next rising trend. I have always taken the view if you are buying a house for a home the short term doesn't really matter anyway, if you hang on to it for long enough it will go up in value.
  21. I think it depend on what web site you are looking at. http://blogs.brockharcourts.com.au/blog/2011/04/11/this-is-a-good-year-to-buy-property/
  22. I went to a funeral and was the ONLY person in a tie and at 44 would have been the youngest in trousers, younger than me were wearing jeans and a couple came in work gear , even the older guests said they have a more relaxed dress code.
  23. Great story and very down to earth, I hope people in the UK that are on their way read this and realize that it is not all roses here. I too have had a lot of the doubts that you have had, schools, money/cost of living, and just lately the crime, although my theory on this is that the news reports everything so you just hear more about it here, I'm quite sure if you lived in the middle of any city in the UK crime would be just if not more prevalent. Sorry to hear it did not work out, but you can take the memories back with you, and at least you 'gave it a go'. There is plenty that wouldn't.
