What to budget for when buying a car ??

Hi,

 

Busy putting the budget together not pretty !!

Can anyone pls advise what cost involve in buying a car when you first arrive. Do you have to pay road tax ? What is insurance like ?

 

Can you get a good family car or $8000 ?

easy, also look in the for sale section of this site, normally a couple of cars in there. rego (road tax ) about $600 a year, insurance around $500 fully comp, petrol $1.20 a litre, basic oil change and service $100, RAA i think about $80. Beware that 2nd hand cars are not cheap, $7k will get you a decent motor plus $1k for the other bits.

When you buy a car, budget for:

Tax on the price (not sure what percentage)

Rego (car tax) this includes 3rd party insurance in the price.

Servicing to keep up the warrenty.

Running cost.

 

Look around the car yards and you can pick up something haft decent for 8K.

Don't forget the stamp duty rip off when you transfer it into your name !!

You can get a decent family car for $3000, less if you have time to shop around. It won't be anything too flash but if you just want something reliable theres plenty around. Probably best to buy privately, the paper and gumtree are good places to look.

i think stamp duty is 3%

 

You will have to shop around, and the cars will be about 10 years older than what you expect.

thanks for all the replies - not cheap hey !!! :nah:And just looking on the net, car are not nice at all................. very old. O well, one of those things you just have to "take on the chin".
