Hi,

I have just been granted OAA, I will start my life in Adelaide in Novar Gardens on the Morphett road, this looks like a good location from the distance to beach and CBD point of view, but will I need my kevlar helmet and flak jacket?;)or have I got lucky?

We stayed in OAA in Novar Gardens last year. It is a really good base to explore as is only minutes from the airport/Gelnelg and very easy to get into the City.

The accomodation is incredibly basic although quite spacious really. We were there for about 6 weeks - it is a real incentive to get off your backside and get a rental/house sorted out!

There is a small kitchen area with oven, gas hob and I beleive they have recently installed microwaves too!

There is a lounge with a sofa and 3 chairs and a little table along with a fan (the only room with a fan) . 3 bedrooms with wardrobes and drawers, a bathroom with a good shower and a small pokey toilet.

The neighbours are quite friendly although they do see a lot of people come and go so take a bit of warming up. If you have kids, there is a small group of 3 or 4 boys aged about 8ish who go out on their bikes a lot and they are lovely, quite polite and friendly.

There is a small shopping area about 5 mins walk which has post office, chicken shop, cafe, IGA mini mart, hairdressers and butchers. The lady in the post office is great, really helpfull and friendly.

All in all it is pretty basic but central and all you need for your first few weeks. I would buy some claening products as you don't always know how the last people left it - it was very dirty when we arrived but someone else has said it was very clean when they arrived so it is a bit pot luck!

If you need any more info - just let me know

Good luck

I didn't have a laptop so don't know the answer to that one. I did manage to use the internet in one of the cafes in Glenelg which was only a few mins drive away. Although once we found the house in Hallett Cove, I joined the library here and it was free of charge then.
