Hello everyone, my name is Coral Shanley, I am 17 years old and I am currently a year 11 student at Henley High School. As part of our curriculum, we are required to participate in the Research Project, and the topic of the project is completely up to us.

I chose to investigate all about emigration specifically looking at moving from Great Britain to South Australia, as I did this with my family when I was only eight years old.

As part of my research, I have to survey and interview people and thought that this would be a great way to get other immigrants' opinions and journey.

I would really appreciate it if you could answer the general questions listed below, and also know that your opinions and answers will be kept anonymous, and will only be used for the purpose of my Research Project.

Thankyou for your time and I hope to read your responses soon!

1. Why did you decide to move to South Australia?

2. What type of visa did you come over here with?

3. What would you say are the long and short term effects of moving from Great Britain to South Australia?

4. What is the hardest thing that you have dealt with after migrating? (missing friends and family)

5. Are you glad you chose to migrate?Why/why not?

6. Would you recommend migrating from Great Britain to South Australia for anyone thinking about it? Why/why not?

7. How would you describe South Australia compared to Great Britain? Good and bad ways

8. Did you find it really hard to adapt to anything when you first moved to South Australia?

1. Why did you decide to move to South Australia?

We visited Australia on holiday years ago and were hooked. We finally got to seriously look into it and my job skill was required in SA, plus reading up, it sounded like it had the best mix of climate, countryside and coastline.

2. What type of visa did you come over here with?

176 State Sponsored

3. What would you say are the long and short term effects of moving from Great Britain to South Australia?

Not sure on the long term (only 3 months in) - but short term effects have been mostly positive - feel like we have a fresh start, feel excited about the new environment, enjoying meeting new people. Our son has had some difficulty in that he has missed his friends from school very much.

4. What is the hardest thing that you have dealt with after migrating? (missing friends and family)

For me, leaving my mum who is on her own - that has been the only regret (so far).

5. Are you glad you chose to migrate?Why/why not?

Yes, very much. Life is short, and the older you get the more you realise that if you don't have a go at the things you always said you would - it'll be too late. It feels like we've snapped out of the routine and have a wonderful opportunity.

6. Would you recommend migrating from Great Britain to South Australia for anyone thinking about it? Why/why not?

I would recommend it, IF it's something you've taken the time to consider - it's a massive financial and emotional commitment and not without risk, but the rewards are also great.

7. How would you describe South Australia compared to Great Britain? Good and bad ways

The good things compared to GB - great infrastructure, easy to get around, big country spaces in which you really can be alone, far better climate, more positive feel (I think mostly due to the weather!), food seems to taste better.

The bad things compared to GB - quite remote so you have to travel along way to explore new places, no quiant villages, cities a bit bland in the suburbs.

8. Did you find it really hard to adapt to anything when you first moved to South Australia?

Nothing in particular so far.
