Social Worker Looking for Work

Hi all,

 

My wife and I are moving to Adelaide in Jan 2013. We are relocating with the company I work for, my wife however is a Social Worker (specialising in Child Protection). We are struggling to find anything for her - can anyone help please?

 

Does anyone have any tips for finding a job in Social Work / have any useful contacts you could pass on / know the best jobsites for this type of work?

 

We would be forever grateful for any info!

Contact families SA in Elizabeth direct...apparently they are always looking

 

She will have lots of work in SA for child protection unfortunately...hope that helps... ;-)

I always use SEEK AU personally...but not sure if it is the best

 

Just try, seek, community services, social work...I believe.

 

I worked for government for a day...long story...but the Indian lad i worked with was a social worker working for an agency, I think a lot had to do with prejudice...unfortunately it is quite rife hear.

 

I personally work in a forensic mental health facility, in a mainly housing trust area with many different cultures and lots of drugs and alcohol and prostituting...and the people I work with are quite...harsh (I am the first Pom working for the company...ever)

 

But I love it and confuse them with my accent all the time, as I am a Geordie true blood...they try and copy my accent and sound like demented Welsh man

 

You could also sign up for the temps of SA Health as they have a large social worker temp team...just a thought.

I don't know anything about Social Work jobs but I do know that not all governement jobs are advertised on seek. For roles in any government department you are best to look at the government website directly. I can't remember the web address but just google south australian government jobs and you should find it. Good luck.

Try simplyhired.com and put in Social Worker in the keyword search. They advertise a wide range of Social Work jobs. SA Health website lists all their jobs in the careers section. Sugarman and Reed Global are agencies and I've not used them personally but they do advertise a lot.

If you search in Seek.com you will need to look under Healthcare and Medical for social work, or community serives for a wide range of non-government community roles of which there are many but often don't pay as well and if you are wanting a similar wage to the one you probably earned as a SW in the UK you will have to look at management roles in the non-gov sector.
