Hi everyone hopfully in Adelaide by the end of the year in, but I can't make my mind up with which catholic school has the better reputation for my two boys age 12 and 11, and safest place to live. The 3 areas were I think we could settle are Port Noarlunga, Golden Grove, and maybe Semaphore Park. Please has anybody got any opinions on this dilema I have, or could there be a better catholic school elsewere. Thanks in advance for everyones help.

Have you already looked here http://www.education.net.au/category/school/Catholic%20Schools/SA ?

Really it is hard to make a fixed decision about where to live until you actually arrive. Do you have jobs lined up already? That should really be your priority - when you know where you will be working, you can then work out the best place to live and the best schools that are within reasonable travelling distance. Fees at private (pretty much all religious schools are private as far as I can think) schools vary a lot too, so budget might be a consideration, as will whether you prefer a single sex or mixed sex education for your children. My children are at a Catholic-based school, although we ourselves are not religious, and it has an excellent reputation, but it would not be practical to send your children there from any of the places you have mentioned really, so find your place of work, then choose your school and place to live would be my recommendation.

Hi Diane

I was thinking about just arriving and then looking about, but im worrying that if I do that, there could be a waiting list to get the children into school and I dont want them missing to much school work. I am a bricklayer, but would do anything for work. My wife is a administration clerk but hasn't done it for a few years now but she would work anywere i.e supermarket, retail etc..Just want to settle into our new life as quickly as possible. Could you give me an opinion on weather there is much work about.? What is the name of your catholic school and fees for the year? It could be im looking in the wrong areas as far as school and work are concerned. Thanks very much for taking the time to reply to my dilema's.

Hi, my kids don't go to a Catholic school, but I know many who do. Try checking out this website http://www.cesa.catholic.edu.au/

If you are looking at Semaphore Park, then there is Semaphore Dominican (primary), most kids in the western suburbs go to St Michaels in Henley Beach or Nazareth for high school (from age 12/13 onwards).

Try searching old threads on this website about job prospects in the building industry, the construction industry is not doing well at the moment. As for admin jobs, they are difficult to get if you haven't got recent experience, maybe try temping with an agency first to get some Australian experience.

St ignatius college in athelstone is a really good school :)

Isn't St Ignatius really expensive? We considered Athelstone as a place to live (it's lovely) but ruled it out on the basis that it's zoned for Charles Campbell (which we are not keen on) and that St Ignatius would be beyond our budget. I agree it is a good school though.

Hi Everyone do you know how much for the year for my two boys (11, 12 ). to go to st ignatius. I could find a house in Athelstone, but if school is too expensive would have to look in another area. Thank for the help.

We live in Aldinga but both work in the city and our son goes to school there too - CBC. We chose it based on the fact we weren't sure where we would end up living but reckoned we'd always work in the city. It's easy to get too and we have been happy with his progress.

I think you would be best to contact the school direct and enquire about their admittance and fees and so on

Thank you I will check out Cardijn catholic school. With all the research i've been doing I think we will be staying in Port Noarlunga for a while and look about when we arrive .You never know we might never leave the place. There seems to be more things to do for the children, and the homes are not to expensive to rent or buy.

My son has just started at Cardijn and they have been really good into the run up and far more organiased on the first day of term than his last school. They don't take until year 8 so your kids will be too young at the mo so you would need to apply for next years enrollment for your eldest. All saints in Seaford (i think) is the feeding school for Cardijn also catholic. We left PN in Oct after we bought our home, but all areas are pretty close together.
