Driving Licence

Good day all,Just going through all our paperwork to bring across to Oz (Arrive Jan 5th 14) and we cant seem to find the paper copy of our driving licence. We both have the plastic wallet type card (always in our wallets!) but no paper copy. Do we require both to change our UK licence over to an Australian one? Thanks in advanceDonna.

No, they didn't ask me or my husband for the paper copy (I took mine just incase, he couldn't find his).

Never remember having one and I've never been asked for it here even when I applied to the SA licence.

We arrived a few weeks ago and only had the photo card. not a problem just made an appointment at driving services on north terrace on a sat morning went in with appropriate id and copy visa and rental agreement and they took our phot and gave us a temporary paper one and then the new one came a week later in the post. You can pay for a licence for one to 5 years on average about $50 a year. If you move address just tell them online and they send you a sticker in the post.( you have to do this within 14 days). By the way you can drive on the uk licence for 3 months and no longer and must have a licence with you when you drive and produce it if stopped by the cops.

The three month part only applies if you are on a permanent visa. If you are on a temp one you can drive on your uk one for the whole time, until you get pr. Then you have three months to swap over.
