Hi.

Can anyone out there tell us if a Netgear Wireless Router which we use at our home in the UK would work in Oz?, just wondering if its worth taking?

We are arriving into Adelaide on April 30th!!!!

great thanks we will def pack it then, its not big so will fit in the cases fine and be worth it if it works as will be up and running straight away with the internet which is very important with finding rentals and for the kids to stay in contact with mates at home.

thanks again

We've also got a netgear router that we'd like to take. Does the telephone jack plug need to be changed before it will work or are the telephone sockets the same as in the UK?

The cable is the only thing that you need not bring with you. The UK cables are straight RJ-11 at one end (small see-through plug) and proprietary BT at the other end.

Older houses over here either have the ugly (beige/white) Telstra sockets, which will require RJ-11 at one end (modem) and either a telstra connector or another RJ-11 and an adapter at the other end. Newer homes/wallplates have straight RJ-11 so a standard Aus modem cable is fine.

You could also bring your RJ11 - to BT cable and get it reterminated but it's easier to just buy a cable when you get here - or ask me for one...got too many of the blasted things!!

You can get UK to Aus (power) socket adapters at any good hardware outlet...
