Septic tank in Mclaren Vale, ? Swimming pool

Hello

we are (hopefully) about to buy a house in mclaren vale and have been told it has a septic tank on the community waste management scheme. Estate agent is waiting to find out from the vendor where it is in garden, but does anyone know a way for us to check this? Also does anyone know of rules re. septic tamk distances etc if we think about putting an in ground pool in? Do all house have their own in mclaren vale?

Hello, yes all houses in McLaren Vale have a septic tank - as far as I'm aware they are cleaned out every 4 years by the council. I'm in the same boat as you in that we're not entirely sure where our cover is, it should be on the plans but we didn't think to ask about it before we bought our house and now I think we might have to pay someone if we want to find out. I bothered a lady at the council for a morning a while back and she was as helpful as she could be - even sending me an email showing me where the drainage pipes ran through our property but still couldn't tell me where the cover was. My husband seems to think that the people who are driving the lorry will know where it is but I don't share his optimism... I was chatting with someone last week and they said they knew of tank covers that had been concreted over when a new patio or drive had been laid; not what I was wanting to hear!

 

I'm sorry but I don't know about pool distances either, I expect someone else more helpful will come along. Exciting stuff though buying a house, good luck with it - you'd be welcome to pop in for a cup of tea once you're settled.

That's brilliant! Mclaren Vale is a stunning place.

My sons girlfriend lives there on a farm...the shortcut along River Road cuts the travel time down to just a few minutes from Port Noarlunga.

They also have a septic tank.

We are having some plumbing work done at home and the plumbers told us that SA water has rough sketches of the internal layout of existing drainage. The plumber said that he will get it for us as we need to tap into the existing drainage. For the distances from a pool I would give the council a call or even one of the pool installation companies.

Hi gillWe used to have a septic tank and pool and they were side by side. As for locating it we contacted the estate agent who contacted the previous owner. When it is due to be emptied we had a letter through the door telling us to provide easy access to the hatch cover.

the estate agent says hopefully the husband owner knows where it is! Glad to hear we're not the only novices to it, we initially panicked imaging it going wrong and a garden full of poo, but figure all the people living there manage somehow!
