Is the move worth it??

I visited a beauty salon a couple of months ago and had a different therapist who came from the UK. She was telling me that she was planning on staying for 4 years (think she had done about a year) and then returning to the UK. I got the impression that she was homesick and I said to her something along the lines of "4 years is a long time if you are not happy". I rang up for an appointment with her last week and she had gone back to the UK.

Moderators- wrong sub forum!! More grown up area??

To the OP - it's a well worn clique - but life is what you make it.

Having the right attitude ,taking the knocks and getting through that important first couple of years is the key.

You are getting your cliques and your clichés confused !!!

My wife Linda once visited a beauty salon, she was in there over 2 hours and cam out with an estimate:biglaugh:, no but really I could visit a saloon for a couple of hours then she would look beautiful:biglaugh::biglaugh:. No no she is beautiful all the time, guess it's time to buy some flowers now!

Back to the topic, and yes the move for us was worth it, our plan was always to get citizenship to keep our future options open, though back in early 2000's it was only a 2 year wait, but 15 years later we are still here, though it was tough for Linda and the two children to start with. What we have achieved and still achieving here in Oz on the financial side, we would not have being able to do in the UK, though Linda understands this she would still return to England tomorrow without a second thought, how she would feel once in England would be another thing what with 2 adult children here in Oz with the possibility of grandkids to come. We have plans and wishes for the future which hopefully will give us the benefit of both countries and families.

I wish every body well with their dreams, plans and aspirations, and please have no regrets, just set some more dreams, plans and aspirations.

Hi Kerri n Carl,

My wife and I moved here 8 years ago and came across with nothing at all, the people that helped us in the beginning were complete strangers and were priceless.

Australia is an amazing country with amazing people, my advice is to grasp the way of life with both hands, get involved with local groups such as surf life saving clubs, footy clubs, rugby clubs etc....you will make new friends and settle easier.

Give it time when you arrive at least 18 months, alot of people who decide to go back do so at the drop of a hat.

We are now Aussie Citizens and feel like this home and would never live in the old country.

Good luck with the move

You always make me smile, Doug. You're such a good bloke; it's clear your generosity of spirit comes from the heart and I know you're not looking for praise for the kindnesses you do for people, but I'm giving it anyway. I wish you and yours the best of everything in Life. x
