Wildlife out and about

We live in seaford rise and drive past the wild Roos in the field at seaford nearly everyday, It makes me smile every time I manage to to get a glimpse

I always enjoy seeing them whenever we head down that way. First time we drove that route I was surprised to see them there all in the middle in the green space with roads so close. They seemed very content and many were having a snooze.

I do wonder what will happen to them if/when the land is developed. Hopefully they'll find somewhere not too far away where people can still see them.

And last ones for today. I'm hopeful I'll have some more to post in the not too distant future

Found this one out in the garden the other day. Almost put my hand on it. Was a fair size, couple of inches long all up. Jumped and had wings

Some of our local kookaburras. This is a pair, the larger one with the darker chest markings is I think the female. She is also more bold and over time is now not minding me getting right up close to her. She watches me intently and wherever I move, she moves round to keep me in her sight. Its rather fun to play peek a boo with a kookaburra :cute:

Wow, snifter, you are clever to get such good shots! :notworthy:

If I even notice the things, they're off in a flash!

Do you wear camo?? :biglaugh:

:wubclub: LC

PS. Not too sure about the ant pics though lol. :wideeyed:

Thanks LC :)

Its thanks to a good camera the kookaburra pics have come out as they have. I only have to point, fiddle with the zoom a bit and shoot. Hubby bought himself a new one a while back and liked it so much, he bought the newer version when it came out 6 months later  I steal it from his desk when he is otherwise distracted and go plant myself out amongst the gum trees for a while and wait patiently for the kookaburras to come down to feed. Seems this patch this time of year is abundant with worms and bugs for them :cute: I'll only go there if I notice them earlier in passing or I try in the morning or early evening when they seem to appear. I'd love to say I'm hiding in the bushes but no, I sit out in the open as they are used to me enough now to not mind me being there. Also the female will let me get right up close if she is sitting on lower branches or on the ground and doesn't mind me being a foot or two away from her. Which is pretty blooming incredible and I feel very lucky she doesn't object or fly off.

Lots of the other pics are taken on my phone when I am in the garden or out and about. When we saw a brown snake a while back, my son piped up afterwards "Did you get a picture of it Mummy?" and I was all :wideeyed: and  and  and told him snapping a pic on my phone had been the LAST thing on my mind :cute:.

I love being so close to all this wildlife. I know when we were down in Glenelg living we saw plenty of birds, the odd lizard if we were lucky and some great fish in and around the jetty when in the water, but this is a whole other level up here. We'd never see a koala or a roo down there. Being so close to open countryside makes the difference I think. So many trails, fields and native trees around, the wildlife has lots to play in. Also less people, traffic and so on makes a difference.

They are good pictures.

I bought a Canon camera yesterday...primarily to take new pictures of the houses as people keep mentioning that the one place looks too small when it isn't...anyway, I think that it will get more use to take great pictures like this...and grandchildren!

  • 6 months later...

A few pics in more recent times from in and around our garden

We see lots of sulphur crested cockatoos but they don't land in our garden often (thankfully). We had about half a dozen come calling the other evening. The blue tongue is a local resident and very used to us and we to her. She loves strawberries and blueberries and keeps the snail population well under control. Koala we often see also. I've been making sure to put fresh water out whenever she is visiting.
