One thing we did learn is to also check the area you are thinking of for the actual house prices if you were to buy there - whilst our rent in Lockleys was quite cheap, the actual house prices were crazy - so we ended up having to re-think once we decided to buy (might be that you don't have any intentions of buying but you never know). This meant another move for the kiddies but we all got through it. I also always think that tidy gardens are a good sign of a decent area, simple but seems to work, people who look after their places are generally okay to live near - Google street view is good for that. Though having said that, our front garden is a mess.........

And Google street view has recently updated a heap of the suburbs it seems. No longer are the pics from a decade ago, many now date from a couple of years back. So a bit more up to date.

Thanks for all your replies. Tyke you are a doomsdayer lol. Thanks for your honesty it has made us think long and hard and we have decided to reject the job offer. However would still like to realise the dream so may go back to our original plan and apply for 489.

Snifler had originally looked at Edwardstown due to work location. However we are very open to suburbs depending on schools, location etc. We currently stay in a 3 bedroom house and the plan was to rent a 3 bedroom in oz until we get on our feet and decide on an area since the girls are used to sharing a room at the moment. Also I noticed snifler that you mentioned about getting help with costs is this usually the case? We are not getting financial costs and the 457 is actually costing us £600 less than the 489 would cost us (another reason we've decided to go for the 489). the job offer was through a recruitment agency who complete the vis process as a condition and take a fee for doing so. The fee does include relocation help and they would help organise flights, accommodation, schools, cars and general set up in oz.

Zebedee you've made a very valid point and we will bear this in mind when looking at rentals.
