North Adelaide Primary School

We are moving to Adelaide for a 12-month sabbatical later this year, with our 8yr old son. We have an good accomodation offer in N adelaide, but finding it difficult to judge what the local primary school is like as the ranking systems all seem to vary. does anyone have any first hand recent experience of N Adelaide Primary? the location is ideal for work, but if there are issues with the school we would rather commute from a better school zone.

There are no official school ranking systems in Australia, so every thing you look at is unofficial. North Adelaide is a very nice and affluent suburb, if a bit on the expensive side. I don't have any experience of the school personally but ai would suggest having a look at the myschool.edu.au website for information on the financials, intake and Naplan results of the school. Also have a look at the school's own website and have a read of the context statement. This is prepared by the school and has lots of information in about the school itself and it's approach to education. If you are not sure about the school after this then maybe have a look at nearby schools to see if any of them appeal and then when you get here go and visit a few.

Nth Ads primary used not to be the number 1 destination school for children living in the area, it was very small and a lot of the children travelled down from less well heeled suburbs because their parents thought it would give them an advantage . This has changed and the school has had to zone and most of the children come from North Adelaide or Inner Prospect. It has an arts focus and has had some extensive building work done in the last few years. There is also a transient population there as people who are here on a 1 yr work visa at the inner city hospitals etc often choose it as they rent in the area. I have done a quick scan of the Naplan results for the last couple of years and the year 7s ( final primary year) are generally performing at above average. It is a small school so you would probably find a good community feel. I would have a look when you get here. You will rarely get a place unless you live in the zone nowadays. The old buildings at the front of the school are very picturesque. The school uses local parklands for sport as the site is small.
