Im Here just over a week and am blown away by people spelling my surname with a HETCH??????? and not an Etch????? What the heff is going on? ha ha!

No mate, if you mean pronouncing the letter 'H' as haitch, rather than aitch, I don't think that's unique to Australia.

 

I've been conscious of that one creeping in more and more. Some teachers pick up on it, others don't.

 

That said, I do quite like the pronunciation of 'auction' as ok-shun, and 'escapee' as eskep-ee. (It's funny, sometimes I forget which is which now. Must be my age!)

 

I guess you already know that 'root' unless applied to part of a plant, means to er...have sex?
