Nuclear Waste in South Australia?

Recommended Posts

Some very interesting points John. Great for discussion.

The forces against nuclear storage are mobilising.

I think that the polls are going to change when the opponents get their message out.

Arguments against storage include being known as the nuclear dumping ground (Finland doesn't seem to have this label), the possibility of an accident..ship, rail, road) etc but the economic argument of $5 Billion per year would certainly transform this state.

Any comments?

This issue is still at the forefront.

The attached link provides a case for and against. There is also an opinion poll of the issues involved.

I'm not opposed to nuclear waste being stored here provided it's our own waste and not other countries. Why does the government see the need to whore Australia to the rest of the world? That is perhaps the better topic.

Well, I guess the argument is ......we've been producing Yellow Cake (as a bi product of Copper Mining ) for generations now, then shipping the stuff all over the world.

+ We have a few of the world's most secure sites for the Geological Disposal of the waste.

So... A) we can't deny our responsibility

B) we have a better means of dealing with the problem we've helped to create, than most others

C) which would you prefer -a few state of the art facilities in places like Canada and Finland and Australia, or a thousand dumps

in places like Bangladesh and Africa?
