804 Aged Parent Visa - Tax return?

Hi everyone

 

Mum is currently on a bridging visa (Bridging Visa A) whilst waiting to join the queue for an 804 visa.

 

I was just wondering if mum was expected to complete a tax return whilst waiting for her visa to be granted (which apparently could be many years!)

 

Mum is retired, doesn't work, hasn't applied for a Tax File Number and has no intention of working!

 

Can anyone please advise as to whether the tax return is something that is needed or not?

If you are unsure, phone the ATO.

If she isn't working, and doesn't even have a tax file number I wouldn't have thought so, but I'd definitely check with the ATO.

I think she will need to alert the ATO that she is here, she will still need to get a tfn I think but she can make a declaration that she hasn't earned enough to pay any tax.

 

The ATO are reasonably helpful if you call or e mail with the query.
