Scrap Metal Collection?

Does anyone know the contact details for a person who collects scrap metal in the south?

I have a dishwasher and a metal double bunk bed.

 

I have the contact details for a local person who has collected fridges, washers, garage doors etc over the years but he now wants to charge $10 to collect it! Seems like having to pay to give money away.

I would take it to the local scrap yard but injuries in the household at the moment prevent this.

 

I could use up my local council hardwaste collection entitlement but would rather see it going to someone making a living.

 

If anyone knows of anybody or they are doing a scrap drop off themselves and want to swing by Port Noarlunga please let me know.

I suspect if you put it on your front lawn/nature strip with a 'free, please take' notice they'd be gone before you reached the front door

You might be right! Problem is that the road is pretty quiet and I hate putting things out the front and then waiting for someone to do their stuff. Am worried how it looks for the neighbours with scrap out front for how long?

The scrap bloke that used to collect for free told me that he spends time stripping appliances down as the components and different types of material (copper, brass etc) get better prices than just general scrap. I am renting at the moment though so need to get rid of it before my property inspection!

I think it's the norm to pay their petrol costs to collect, we had to to get rid of ours, but thought it was a small price to pay to clear a lot. It's probably due to time wasters that they have to cover their costs. You could see if you get any interest putting them on Gumtree for free, there are also some collectors advertising on there as well.

I was going to suggest Gumtree too, it's amazing what people are happy to take.

We used to live on a road win a dead end.... If you didn't live there as no point going down..... Yes when things were put out for scrap they still magically disappeared!
