Its been running a couple of years now and looks to be getting bigger each year. We've been the last two years (kids parties) and they loved it. The rink was small the first year but has grown in size since then. Can make a morning/afternoon of it and also hit the play park on the foreshore just a few metres away (weather permitting) or blow the cobwebs off with a walk along the beach and then head to Bracegirdles for one of their amazing hot chocolates. http://www.bracegirdles.com.au/glenelg.html

For the month of July, Glenelg will turn into a Winter Wonderland with a huge 450sqm ice rink installed on Moseley Square. Come rain, hail or shine; morning, noon or night bring the family and skate by Adelaide’s favourite beach.

Open daily

Sunday to Thursday from 9am to 7.30pm

Friday and Saturday from 9am to 9pm

 

1 hour skating sessions available at 9am, 10.30am, 12 noon, 1.30pm, 3pm, 4.30pm and 6.30pm. An additional 8pm skate session is available Friday and Saturday nights only.

 

Prices

1 hour skating session including skate hire -

• Adult $12.50

• Child (2 to 15) $7.50

• Family (2 adults and 2 children or 1 Adult and 3 Children) $30.00

• Snow play* (all ages no skating) $5.00

• Skating aid** (penguins) $5.00

Booking Fees: Online booking fee of 50c per ticket and a 1.5% credit card payment fee + GST will apply. You may BYO skates but full admission costs still apply.

 

*Snow play is only available Monday 25 – Sunday 31 July during the 9am session.

**We recommend you book your skating aid at the time of ticket purchase as they sell out fast.

 

Conditions

• 1 hour skate session includes skate hire. Those who choose to bring their own skates still pay full price.

• Skating aids must be booked at time of ticket purchase.

• No food or drink on the ice.

• Only skates can be worn on the ice, except for snow play area.

• Parents/guardians can participate in snow play area with their child at no cost.

 

Snow Play

Snow play is a hands-on soft ice experience for all ages. Participants can sit, crawl, lay and play with soft ice in an enclosed area using the shovels and buckets provided. This area is a no-skate zone.

The snow play area is fenced off from the skate area and is limited to 40 persons plus one parent/guardian each.

Parents/guardians are welcome to join the paying snow play participant on the ice for a fun snow play session at no cost. One parent/guardian per snow play participant only.

W ho can skate?

There is something for every age. Skating aids available for those unsteady on the ice – skating aids can be hired for $5 each.

Snow play area open to all ages, no skates allowed in this area.

Youth Night @Winter Wonderland

HoldUp Youth Committee are holding a youth only ice skating event on Friday 22 July. From 6.30-7.30pm bring your friends down and have a great time on the rink at a reduced entry price. Pre-book your tickets to make sure you don’t miss out!

Warm winter clothing: socks, gloves, scarves and a change of clothes (in case you glide as well as slide across the ice).

 

Transport and Parking Options

By public transport

Catch the City-Glenelg tram, which stops right in Moseley Square, in front of the ice rink. Alternatively, catch one of the several buses that stop in Moseley Street, right next to Moseley Square (J1, 110, 600, 265, 190, 135 and 167 buses).

 

By car - Free parking options

Park free at Glenelg Oval (on non-match days) and catch the tram, free, to Moseley Square and back.

Park free on Anzac Highway (centre strip) and walk to Moseley Square.

Seek a free 2P or 3P parking space in Glenelg’s side streets.

 

By car - Paid parking options

Park in a ticketed outdoor space in Dunbar Tce, Elizabeth St or Colley Tce; or undercover in the Beachouse or The Grand car parks.

Its good fun for an hour or two. I love that its there next to the beach. Always amuses me to see that. If they play Let It Go be prepared for a sing a long

Oh yes, if you've booked a penguin or two for the kids to use, don't leave them unattended for a second. Other kids or their parents/adults with them will just come along and whip them away and its hard to get them back. I found this the only real pain when we went was having to say to people that we had paid to use it and they could go hire one from the desk.
