hi, new to the site after viewing for quite a while. just got our visa after nearly a year of backing and forthing as we didnot use a agent. we now hope to be settled in adelaide by this time next year as we have a business and house to sell. we are going to adelaide for xmas and newyear and hopefully sortout a new house and schools ext. just wondering as i have 2 large plasma tvs would they work over there? cheers pat.:)

Hi Nottingham and all,

We arrived here in Jan and brought everything wwith us. Don't stress about your TV's they'll work fine here if you buy an Aussie Digital box. I bought one in Dick Smiths (no smutty jokes please) for about $100 connected it to my TV and it worked fine. With other things eg PS3 snd Xbox360 I just had change the ac power cord , again no problems with them or any games purchased/hired. A fellow member of PIA told me that he retuned his Plasma himself by fiddling with the settings and it worked okay.

i brought my tv out with me (not plasma or lcd) and found it cant pick up any tv channels just have spare dvd player on it in rumpus room for kids as for set top boxes buy a cheap one in uk for £20 and bring that as ive seen my old one here for over $100 (i got mine for £15 in uk) not sure as well if you can use sky boxes here they look the same as ive got foxtel I-Q box which is sky record box?!!! one thing i must say is oz tv is crap there is no adverts between programs so you never know which prog ends or starts also there is no tv licence to pay

no they put all the annoying ads in the middle, I swear that a half hour programme is sometimes 10 mins ads. channel 10 is the worst.

I brought my 32" LCD tv with me and plugged it changed setting on channel tuner and picked up all the channels but australian Tv is rubbish so be warned ha ha

My girls have cheap portables with digi boxes sat on top can we use these in oz we have had the tv's 7-8 years so no digital on them.

Don't reckon so. I left my portable TVs at home. Unless you have those HUGE, EXPENSIVE plasma TV's :swoon:that everyone else seems to have but me TV's are not worth bringing out to Oz as they work on different wavelengths and you won't get a picture. And just to add my two penn'orth, yes Aussie TV is rubbish, which is why I'm always renting out at the DVD shop. But then people have pointed out that most of us come here for the outdoor lifestyle, not intending to be stuck indoors watching the box...

Yeah the TV will work, we use the same PAL system as the UK

Aust TV is not crap your just watching the wrong programmes, there is only one good programme, the SBS test card

anyone know if a lcd/dvd combi will work , i read somewhere that the combis dont work, but im not sure if they ment the old style dvd combi's, i am aware of the difference in region but thats not a prob
