Hello All

Just wanted to ask opinion on something.

As I like to plan and organise lots, I thought would be a good idea to try and rent a house for six months before we get to Oz.

We do have a holiday cottage for a week when we arrive so wanted somewhere after that , about August 10th.

Are willing to pay upfront for rent to secure us a nice property, but seem to have no joy as yet with all the emails I am sending!!!!!

Agents either don't reply or say can you get someone to view it for you tomorrow??Which obviously we can't!!!:arghh:

Has anyone else had similar experiences should we just wait till we get there???

Thanks

Claire x

Believe me, it is hard enough securing a decent rental from here Claire, let alone from 10,000 miles away! Agents won't be much interested in you, judging from our personal experiences, and although you may be lucky finding a 6 month rental, most landlords may want you to sign on for at least 12 months. Good luck though.

We have been trying to do the same thing - rental sorted out before we get there. Out of about a dozen agent I have had replies from about 4, all of which have been helpful. They have emailed me application forms, which I am in process of completing, scanning and sending off along with the tons of other documentation they ask for e.g. passports, birth certificates, job offers, driving licences - didn't need as many for the bl****y visa application!

Still, we are playing the game and hopefully one of them will come up with a rental???? It is very frustrating as you can get short term rentals (holiday rentals) but at $600 per week how many of us could sustain that until a 'proper' rental is found? If any one has a solution we would be very grateful to hear about it.

Hello and many thanks for advice!!

Swampo could you maybe share with me the agents you have been in contact with and have been of help and I will go down the same path as you and keep fingers crossed.

In the meantime await to hear if any other solutions from others too, forever hopeful!!

We were lucky and got OAA which I have to say avoided a lot of these problems. Our back up was to book into a caravan park thire are quite a few in the adelaide area. Might be worth looking at as a short term fix

We did manage to rent one for a client who has just arrived - they wanted a place that would take their dog as well so that made it a little harder than normal. If you have a good idea where you might be looking, you could always find someone on here or one of the other forums who lives there and ask them to go along to an open for you with their camera.... or you could engage the services of Home2Home....

It IS possible, but the rental market is pretty tight here at the moment so agents can tend to pick and choose who they take. Don't forget if they are checking references, they will probably take the easy way out and find someone with Australian time-zone references to check rather than put themselves out...

On the other hand, if you have a week when you get here, it's not totally unfeasible that with a lot of organisation (and you sound pretty organised) you could find somewhere within that week... things do tend to happen quite quickly here!

Or you could have a look at Deb and Stoo (?)'s recent post - they are moving out of their rental end July so if the area sat might be an option..

Good luck anyway

Diane

Hi, been off line for a few days so just picked this up. I have had resonses from 6the following:

Elders, ljHooker, Professionals and another one I can't remember the name of but the email is jmcbride@adam.com.au

We have two weeks accommodation when we get there from jmy OH company but after that we are on our own. Need to sort a rental out before arrival as can't stand the stress of not having somewhere to go to once the two weeks is up + can't afford to pay the $600 + for short term rentals either!!

Anyone wanting someone to take over a rental beginning of October we would be grateful to hear from you. Looking for east/north east of the city.
