How long to find rental?

I am just trying to book short term accommadation, and I have no idea how long to book for. Or how long it will take to find a long term rental, we will not be fussy just need somewhere as soon as pos in the area for the school. (hopefully cheaper than the short term!)

Anyway the question is, how long did it take most people to find somewhere?

Also as it will be Nov/Dec does this make any difference finding properties?

Thanks

I'd say a good few weeks (I'm not selling here mods).

You will be knackered and disorientated when you arrive,it does take a few days to come around.

It pays not to rush into the first rental you see - there is some rubbish around so you need to see plenty.

Once you are "on the ground" here your choice of suburbs may change.

Giving yourself a few weeks can save a 12 month disaster:)

Dec could be a little trickier as is is getting into holiday time - the landlord might be away.

Totally agree with Tyke, you need a couple of weeks plus to have time to fit in several viewings, there are plenty of dives around, and lots of beautiful places - its finding the right one that ticks all your boxes.

We secured housing, job, furniture and schools in 2 weeks but it was a whirlwind. Give yourselves 2 weeks minimum, 3 would be better so you could try for a cross over period of having somewhere furnished to sleep whilst you get the longer term rental sorted/furnished/connected.

I agree, we had 3 weeks accommmadation paid for by my OH company. Look on realestate.com.au at least it gives you an idea of what is around. We had viewings set up before we got here. I would give yourself a month otherwise it can be really hard going.

wireless landlineless internet can be expense and tie you in for long periods i would suggest using the library for internet and then get a good internet access when in rental. I personally wouldnt touch telstra with a bargpole , and have adam internet , hope this helps. Also u can use your laptop in wi fi hotspots ie mc donalds etc x
