buying on a sub457 visa?

We are out here on a sub class 457 visa and would like to hear from anyone on same visa that has bought property. Want to know if you can buy a previously occupied house on this visa because we were told that you can't, but that we can buy a brand new house. Is there anyone out there who has bought a house on this visa and how did they go about it?

I thought it was the other way round you Can buy a previously owned house but not a new build

If you wish to buy a residential property to live in on a temp visa you need to apply for FIRB approval (Foreign Investment Review Board) generally a formality.

Hi,

you can buy any house if it is to live in,as your main home, with any visa, if it is a temp visa you will need to get FIRB approval and as Andrew says this is normally a formality and the selling agent will normaly take care of all the paperwork for you. If you want to buy property for investment, this is when it has to be a new house, or house/land package if you are on a temp visa and again this is not normaly a problem it just takes a bit longer.
