Hi, some more advice needed.

I have set up a Westpac bank account, but also want to leave an account open here. Money from rental ect.... i have a Barclays account, would i be able to draw money out (free) from cash points. Also i wanted my mother in law to be able to access this account if things needed fixing with house and stuff. Do i need to make her power of attorny (sorry cant spell) or will i get away with just giving her a bank card?????:unsurexmas:

Any advice greatfully received

Thanks Cara:emoticon-signxmas:

Hi hun.

I'm not 100% sure about drawing money out for free from adelaide but i will be leaving an account open with norwich and peterborough and putttting my mum as an additional card holder on that account.

As far as i am aware it is just the same as going on holiday and drawing money out so there would be a charge but nothing like what would be charged by the banks if say someone wanted to put money into your australian account from the U.K and visa versa.xx

Banks in the uk charge to do a CHAPS transfer to an ozzie bank from a UK account.

We left a Nationwide Account open in the uk for people to pay money into there and use for a couple of life cover items left behind.

We made MIL a named account holder to access and get things sent to.

Also left a barclays account open again for people to pay money into and also to have some pennies if ever we go back on holiday.

Also good idea to leave accounts open as who knows what happens in the future but if after two years away and no accounts held you lose your credit rating. Not that we plan to go back!

Just be aware like happened to us even telling Nationwide before that we was going and what we was doing when we started to use the card over here ( for free) the account was put on stop as they assumed stolen. Twice it happened and cost a blooming fortune in phone calls back to get sorted!

Hi Cara!

I know Barclays and Westpac work well together. Sister of the account holder was enough for us! Speak to Barclays, they were really helpful (best of doing it at the local branch, so set up a meeting with the manager).

All you do is ring up Barclays Telephone Banking or access Internet Banking over here if you want to transfer the funds yourself.

Everything reamins in your name, but all bills and new cards etc get sent to the one who deals with the account.

In short... you and an added extra have power over your account.

Any further help or more details on how to do it... just PM me!
