First time rental

Is it true that you're expected to pay 6 months rent in advance if it's your first time renting? We're hoping this is an urban myth but would like to double check...

We're hoping to arrive at the end of June/start of July and will rent a short term property for a month so we can get to know the areas.

We're looking at Roo Rentals for the short term, can anyone recommend any others?

Thanks!

Glenn, Marilyn, Louis (age 3)

It is a myth - in a way.

Often expected is 3 months in advance - but often to beat the 15+ others it's worth offering more in advance.

It's a competitive market and it depends if it is the rental of your dreams.:D:D

Is there such a demand on one bedroom apartments and flats? There are just the two of us so we are happy to just get a one bedroom flat for the first six months. I can understand there being a lot of competition for the nice houses from people with kids etc but we have had a nosy and there do seem to be quite a few reasonable flats up for rental that look ok.

Hi

We were only the two of us as well, we rented a furnished place for 8 weeks and just got a longer term rental starting in a couple of weeks. We didn't offer to pay any rent in advance and were accepted in 2 days. We paid $450 a week for our furnished 2 bed rental, happy to PM you with the details of the landlord/letting agent if you want. We were more than happy with it as an initial base as we did not need a house initially which it doesn't sound like you do either.

Yes thanks, PM me the details. We don't need a house intially, I plan to rent and once we find our feet look at buying, we have seen some fantastic houses, places we could never afford here.
