Hi, I'm hoping someone can help as I've spent the last couple of days glued to my laptop in the faint hope that I'll stumble across the perfect rental :arghh:

My husband has a job at the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Woodville (we've been told to steer clear of this area) starting at the end of this month for 9 months, then moves to other hospitals in the city for the next 3 years. We have accommodation provided by the hospital for the first month so on paper we're not in a rush, but we have a 2 month old baby so I would really love to secure somewhere for when we arrive (20th March). Ideally we would like to live in the best possible area (nice houses, low crime rate) with parks or a beach where we can walk the dog. I know that we all have our own interpretation of the 'best areas' but if you could point me in the direction of some good ones and ones to definitely steer clear of it could save my sanity:)

Also... my husband has asked me to find out how much income tax you pay in australia

Thanks for reading, Rachael

Its a tough one and everyone has their own opinion...

For us, we decided that we wanted to be in the Western Suburbs (i.e West of the CBD) and as close to the Beach as possible.

Bearing in mind, it only takes 20 mins to drive from the city to Henley Beach along Henley Beach road, it means that this whole area is close to the beach.

The closer you get, the more expensive it gets.

We looked from Westlakes to Westbeach and after an initial Rental in Grange have moved to another in Underdale. Some areas of Underdale are quite rough, but we are on a fantasic new estate, so we are happy.

If you have kids, you will also want to be near the schools. Again, we put the kids into school very quick (Henley & Grange) and then limited our Rental search within easy driving of those.

Cheers

Si

Agree with all Runcorn2Adelaide says.

I personally recommend West Lakes/West Lakes Shore. Lovely area, walking distance to everything you could possibly want - major shopping mall, cafes, cinemas, football stadium, beach, duck pond, bus terminal, hotel, doctors, dentists, physios, etc. QEH would only be 5 to 10 minute drive from here depending on time of day. Further north, anywhere beachside including Semaphore, Largs Bay and North Haven.

Good luck.

Or you could look at Prospect, Nailsworth, nth adelaide as well as over in the South West parts like edwardstown, South Plympton, Clarence Gdns. These are 10 mins from beach, large shopping mall, the city. frome these subs the QEH is about 20 mins, but also are only about 10 mins to Flinders hosp, 15 mins to Royal Adelaide hosp, 20 mins to the Womens and Childrens. The other suburbs I mentioned are to the north about 10 mins out of town, but only about 15 mins from QEH. They all have parks, shops, playgroups, good public transport and none of them is far from the beach.

Guest Martin and Val

Hi Rachael,

Again like what has already been said its all personal opinion.

We live just along the coast a little from Runcorn2Adelaide and even closer to Kazzarazza. We live in Semaphore Park just on the edge of West Lakes Shore. It suits us perfectly as we are very near to Aussie relations in West Lakes and close to the beach. Val works in the city and gets the train from Ethelton train station in the mornings. She is in the city within 20 mins of leaving the station and in her office within 30. I take her to the station in the mornings although she could easily walk or park the car there all day for free.

My cousins children go to a school in West lakes which is really nice, sorry I don't know the name of it but will find out if you wish.

We are in a great rental and hopefully when we buy we intend to stay near here probably somewhere between us now and Henley beach would be perfect for us.

Large Shopping centre nearby called "West Lakes" with a nice hotel, library and pubs and restaurants close by also.

Enjoy your search and good luck

Martin
